“I’m very lucky to live in this special community on Prince of Wales Road, where so many professional as well as great amateur musicians live. On any given day, from many flats in the building you can hear singers, oboists, pianists, violists, guitarists and my violin, of course.

When lockdown happened we decided to put on concerts in the courtyard for all the residents to enjoy. It was great fun for us. We’ve had concerts with different programmes and a mixture of classical and popular music.

But how did we keep to the 2 metres distancing rule? For the Brahms violin sonata in which I was accompanied by Michael Shak on piano, Michael played from inside his flat with the windows open, and I stood just outside his doorway. It was the smallest space imaginable but it worked!

From all the feedback we’ve received it seems the concerts were the highlights of people’s lockdown!”
